feet monsters pattern (for toddlers)

this pattern was inspired by a pattern Anna Hrachovec designed, and since I’m not a big knitter, I designed a crochet pair instead.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

G6 hook

fiber fill stuffing

stitch marker

plastic tapestry needle

scissors

 

YARN COLORS NEEDED:

white

pink

black

blue (or any color you want the body of your slipper to be)

 

ABBREVIATIONS TO KNOW:

st- stitch

ch- chain

sc- single crochet

sc2tog- single crochet two together

sk- skip

magic ring- for those of you who don’t know what a magic ring is, here’s a tutorial

and now, to begin….

 

*BASE

worked with pink yarn

ch4

row1: sk first ch, sc 2 in first ch, sc in next ch, sc 2 in last ch. ch 1, flip          (5)

row2:  sc 2 in first st, sc in next 3 st, sc 2 in last st.ch 1, flip          (7)

row3: sc 2 in first st, sc in next 5 st, sc 2 in last st. ch 1, flip          (9)

row4-17: sc in every st in the row. ch 1, flip          (9)

row18: sc 2 in first st, sc in next 7 st, sc 2 in last st. ch 1, flip          (11)

row19-21: sc in every st in the row. ch 1, flip          (11)

row22: sc 2 in first st, sc in every st until end of row. ch 1, flip          (12)

row23-25: sc in evert st until the end of the row. ch 1, flip          (12)

row26: sc 2 in first 2 st, sc in every st until end of row. ch 1, flip          (14)

row27-28: sc in every st until end of row. ch 1, flip          (14)

row29: sc2tog, sc in every st until end of row. ch 1, flip          (13)

row30-31: sc in every st until end of row. ch 1, flip          (13)

row32: sc2tog, sc in next 9 st, sc2tog. ch 1, flip          (11)

row33: sc2tog, sc in next 7 st, sc2tog. ch1, flip          (9)

row34: sc2tog, sc in next 5 st, sc2tog. ch 1, flip          (7)

row35: sc2tog, sc in next 3 st, sc2tog. ch 1, flip          (5)

fasten off*

repeat from *to* for the second base. just flip the second one over so you dont have two left foot slippers. dont worry, it wont look bad, besides, it will be on the bottom of the slipper

 

SIDES (make 2)

worked with blue yarn

ch5

row1: sk first ch, sc in each ch until end of row. ch 1, flip          (4)

row2-83- sc in each st until end of row. ch 1, flip          (4)

row84- sc in each st until end of row

fasten off

 

HEAD (make 2)

worked with blue yarn

round1: sc6 in magic ring          (6)

round2: sc 2 in every st in the round          (12)

round3: (sc in first st, sc 2 in next st)  repeat until end of round          (18)

round4: (sc in first 2 st, sc 2 in next st) repeat until end of round          (24)

round5: (sc in first 3 st, sc 2 in next st) repeat until end of round          (30)

round6-21: sc in every st in the round           (30)

fasten off  (stuff) sew closed so you have a flat seam

 

TOOTH (make 2)

worked with white yarn

round1: sc6 in magic ring          (6)

round2: sc 2 in every st in the round          (12)

round3-5: sc in every st in the round          (12)

fasten off  (no need to stuff) sew closed so you have a flat seam

 

EARS (make 4)

worked with blue yarn

round1: sc6 in magic ring          (6)

round2: sc 2 in every st in the round          (12)

round3-4: sc in every st in the round          (12)

fasten off  (no need to stuff) sew closed so you have a flat seam

 

FINISHING

add eyes to head with scraps of black yarn

sew the tooth seam to seam with the head

sew ears to the head

sew the sides to the base of the slippers, so it looks like a wall around the base

sew the head to the sides at the top of the base

 

wallah! finished!
